Evening was the time for … [cityscape pic]
*****
This evening, at the very least, evening was the time for family. Stv’s parents are in town today through Saturday morning, and we had them and my parents over for dinner together tonight. As usual, I overcomplicated dinner. Last night we slaved over homemade marinara and a greek honey-walnut cake late last night after my rehearsal. I wrote my 301 words, picked up furiously for the maids, and then didn’t get to sleep until one. Then tonight, we took said marinara and put together a lasagna. It was the first time I’ve ever made a non-vegetarian one. At least it smelled good when the guests arrived! The next time I try it, I may do a meat other than sweet Italian sausage — it’s sooooo greasy. The result was a little dry, but overall, I think it turned out pretty well.
The GOOD thing about lasagna was that it gave Stv and I time to sit and chat and be with family. There were lots of good munchies. The families are fun to watch together — this was the first time they’d seen each other in close to a year. I’m so blessed that they get along okay.
After dinner, we proved evening is also a time for projects. Stv and I ordered some new oversized candle sconces for the dining room. So I decided that while I had Stv, my dad, and my father-in-law all handily available, I’d set them to work getting the new hardware up on the wall. They were so much fun to watch. One with the level, one holding a scrolly bit of ironwork, one brandishing a tape measure, and each jokingly passing the buck to another for any percieved imperfections in their handiwork. They’re all so different. But in the end I think it was a good thing that we had so many hands involved … it was wonderful to have a project that I got to include the entire family on, even if it was a little self-serving. It makes me so happy to have everyone around at once.
Did I do a writing exercise tonight? Not really, I suppose. Does it matter?
