That’s right, I can now put things in the attic (yuk yuk). Stv and I spent Wednesday night hauling particle board up the attic stairs, laying it out, and nailing it to beams, so there’s now actual storage space in half of the attic. It isn’t glamorous, but I’m VERY excited to have a place to put all the CRAP that I don’t immediately need but it somehow seems foolish to part with. Don’t we all have that kind of stuff? Most of what I need a place for are linens, and storing that in the attic just scares me, but I don’t seem to have a choice. Does anyone out there know what it’s *safe* to store in an attic? I’ve put the linens in big plastic storage bins and am planning to buy some of those cedar balls to keep the bugs and rodents at bay. I was pleased to not see a single bug, dead or alive, in the attic — it gave me hope that nothing will get horribly infested or munched or whatever. only time will tell, I guess.
Being an out-of-the-closet perfectionist, of course I’d like the flooring to be even and all particle board instead of the hodgepodge of shelves and old boards and abandoned doors and such that makes up what we’ve got. But that requires more than a weeknight and a hacksaw, so we’ll just have to save it for later.
My inlaws are coming to visit on Nov. 30 and the goal is to have the third bedroom habitable before they arrive, just in case they need the futon (my guest bed is a double and it’s a little snuggly for two adults, especially adults used to a king). The third bedroom is currently the Household Crap Repository, where I still have carboard boxes and stacked pictures and things that I haven’t found a home for yet.
Yes, you can probably start laughing at my ambitions now.
I put pretty much anything in the attic. The only problem might be the summer heat (I’d guess 120+F). But with the exception of Christmas stuff, all the junk in my attic is really things I should be getting rid off, anyway…
BTW, if you decide to re-floor the attic and need to borrow a circular saw, let me know.
