I’d like to ask for a moment of silence in honor of my iPod mini, which has tragically passed through this life to that big electronics repository in the sky. It had a good run and I don’t regret our relationship. Even so … I can’t help feeling I’d be better served replacing the mini with a current-generation iPod rather than trying to replace the battery in a product that Apple no longer even makes. It still works great for the stereo — I love how unobtrusive it is for party music — but it won’t hold a charge when it’s not plugged in. Sad, sad day.
So that raises the question … what flavor of iPod do I replace it with? There are so many options. Since the big thing I tend to want it for is exercise, I am favoring the nano. However, I was always running out of storage on the mini, and maybe I should get some obscenely huge video iPod instead.
I’m really tempted by the iPod Nano RED, which is a special edition one in cheerful lipstick red that supports the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. They make an 8-gig version (which should be PLENTY of space for me). The site says “$10 of its purchase price,” so I’m thinking they mistyped 10%. It’s a cool concept. If it really is $10, they’re cheap bastards, and I’ll have to go with the 4 GB silver one instead. I worry about space, but the only other 8 GB one is black. I can’t decide what’s more important. The eternal debate between what’s practical (and elegant) and what’s shiny.
