About

I think I was a matryoshka doll in a previous life.

I have a few minutes before lunch, so I thought I would check in. My birthday weekend was fabulous. It is fun to have a Saturday birthday - the celebration ends up spanning across the whole weekend. So Friday night we did dinner at Trudy’s (the watistaff was rude but the food was, as usual, great) followed by a couple of hours at Dave and Buster’s. I shot zombies - for some reason, I derive endless enjoyment from playing House of the Dead. This time, I got to play version 3, which has these big crazy pump-action gun things that actually get quite heavy. I suck at shoot things games. My aim is terrible. Jen and I made it all the way to level three, which for me is an achievement! It was fun. That was followed by skee-ball and racing games and all kinds of random entertainment. We ended up staying a lot later than we intended to, so I lost a few people before cake and champagne at my apartment, but the die hards were there and it meant more cake for us. :) It was a very fun evening!

Saturday was dreary, miserable weather. It was cold and wet, and I spent the whole day sleepy. But I went to Crate and Barrel and spent the gifty certificate that Todd & Stef gave me, and then we went out to dinner at Eastside Cafe and to Cirque du Soleil, both with my folks. Cirque was, as usual, immersive, saturated with color and movement, and just beautiful to watch. I still think that La Nouba has been my favorite overall of the three that I have seen (this one was Varekai), but that may just be the impact that the first one has on you. It was a perfect way to spend the evening.

From a marketing slut perspective, I have to say that souvenir shopping at CdS is far superior to any other show or circus that I have ever seen. My folks got me an incredible mask that is based off the ZUMANITY show (apparently it is the *only* costume item for this particular performer). I absolutely love it. I could have walked away with sixty different things, all of them artsy and funky and cool.

Apparently my mom felt guilty that I didn’t get my traditional fried chicken dinner on Saturday, so she had Steve and I over for it on Sunday instead. Despite the already lavish festivities I had had, I didn’t argue too much - dad and I only get fried chicken twice a year (his birthday and mine). So YAY for that. Thanks mom!!

And thank you for all the cards, presents, warm wishes and such. I felt very special. :)
