Just went and saw House of Flying Daggers this evening at Alamo. My verdict? It was visually stunning, as I expected. The sound effect editing was also phenomenal, as was the fight choreography. Score was lush and mythic, and dramatically silent when it needed to be. Parts of the story threw some good twists, although the ending was a little over the top on the epic heroics and poetry for my personal taste. Definitely Crouching Tiger-like in its scope and artistry. If you dug that, you’ll dig this. I do love the classic wuxia storytelling elements - that is, in so far as I understand them, and I know there’s a great deal that I can’t even hope to get. Might bear more research before I see Hero.
