About

Miss Piggy is my feminist idol.

We just had a fire drill here at the office. Well, it actually wasn’t an official drill, but it wasn’t a fire, either. I think one’s reaction to fire alarms never really changes from grade school on up - deep down, there’s a part of you that is fervently hoping and praying that there’s some MAJOR problem and school will be cancelled for the rest of the day and you can leave guilt-free. Now that I’m older, I at least have the good grace to FIRST hope and pray that everyone else gets out okay and THEN to hope and pray that I get to play hooky. But the gut response is still there. Unfortunately, I was not that lucky this afternoon.

I finally got my little heater fan and my feet are now roasty-toasty. It’s sad to say, but I think I needed it more back in August when the temperature was sub-arctic in here. Still, it’s nice to have even now, since the heat in this building is as feeble as the AC is aggressive.

I start Mirage practice on Tuesday. I’m excited, but not as excited as I would like to be, if that makes sense. I’m still a bit worried about the time commitment. Hopefully, it will be worth it, and I’ll never notice a problem. But I have admittedly realized lately that since I’ve had NOTHING going on except a standing Thursday night thing, I’ve been quite relaxed, if slightly antsy that I’m not doing enough. Since I’ve made this commitment and I’ve GOT to keep working out if I am going to achieve my aforementioned New Year’s goal, I hope I can achieve a workable balance.

I went to spin class with Alice yesterday and the Resolutions crowd was apalling. The gym was crawling with people, and there was this wall of heat and odor that smacked you headlong as soon as you walked in. The lot was completely full and little (and not-so-little) cars had parked up the drive lanes as well, until it had reached the point where only one car could squeeze through at a time, causing backups in either direction. I ended up parked back behind the dumpsters on the other side of the building. Ugh. I just have to make it to Spring Break … then they will all be gone …
