About

I think I was a matryoshka doll in a previous life.

Steve and I made the trek down to Galveston this weekend to go to his cousin Jim’s wedding. They got married aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship the Rhapsody, and it was a really neat boat! We spent the day Saturday being attacked by mosquitos, praying the rain would hold off, and exploring the Elissa.

I noticed that the Natural History Musum in Houston has scored the coup of an exhibit of The Dead Sea Scrolls that just opened and I am dying to go. Only a few cities in the US will get the exhibit. Steve and I are planning to make a weekend of it. It looks incredible. And the HMNS has the Cockrell Butterfly Center as well, which I love, so it will be a fun day. Just have to get it on the calendar. Always interesting.

I had my first dance solo in YEARS at the Mirage show on Thursday night. It didn’t suck! I am proud, because I did the whole thing pretty much as an improv, which really scares me, even though it is the traditional mode of presentation for bellydance. It feels like a giant hurdle out of the way, and that’s exhilerating. I miss my class. I feel like I’m getting horribly sloppy.

Ginger (Zanjabil) and I are planning on dancing another duet in December at Casa de Luz. It will be her farewell performance. I am going to miss her desperately! She’s so good about forcing me to perform, and for all we complain, I enjoy putting our heads together to come up with some really unique choreography. So when she leaves for Seattle in December, I will pout a lot and probably recede into the shadows as far as my dancing is concerned … not that I mean to be reclusive, but I’m terrible about putting myself out there. We shall see. But anyway, the Mirage ladies are so supportive and sweet, and I had a really good time. Yay for that.

Steve and I went to the Pecan Street Art Festival last weekend. I came away with a henna tattoo (already fading, but I kept it up very well through the bellydance performance) and two business cards: one for Popsicle Toes and one for Marblies. The custom toe rings look soooo much more comfortable (and classy); as for the Marblies, they had “special edition” Longhorn ones that were devistatingly cute. I was desperately trying to come up with an excuse to buy one. I still am.

One Response to “busy week”

  1. I would be glad to buy you a Longhorn toe ring for Christmas. Just tell me where the store is.
