Hello! Happy belated Thanksgiving. Mine was decent — went to mom & dad’s and hung out. Nice and low key. It felt really good not to have to travel. Christmas will be a lot more hectic. I think Steve and I are going to decorate the apartment this weekend, so that I can have a cocktail party soon. Yay.
A friend just pointed me to the Austin Convention Center page that has a bunch of info about upcoming events around town. Christmas is still my favorite season. I guess it’s because there’s a lot more “love you fellow man” than there is the rest of the year. And there’s an excitement, and there is so much music. Well, it’s great unless you’re shopping, in which case everyone is grumpy. I actually got a lot of my Christmas shopping done way early this year, thanks to a trip to the Hillsboro outlet mall to meet up with my in-laws. Steve is among those I haven’t done yet. I have some ideas, but no idea where to find a few of them. So here’s hoping that I have a flash of inspiration.
We went and saw the Madrigal Dinner at UT a few weeks ago. This was the first year that I haven’t been involved in the production (minus one) since I started college. So it was the first time I’ve ever been in the audience. I had a good time. I still know enough cast memebers that I was picked on sufficiently to allow me my illusions of importance. I got put in the stocks. Steve saw no reason to help me out. That would have been okay, except that when you are wearing a pendragon and are forced to bend over at the waist, the audience gets quite a view. It was a lot of fun. I have pictures to post … as soon as I dig my camera out of the back seat of Steve’s car. In my totally unbiased (*cough*) viewpoint, it was really missing something without a bellydancer. There is something about the drum and jingling costume in the background that add a feeling of liveliness and chaos to the experience. They make the room feel fuller somehow. Maybe I’ll do it again next year. I didn’t volunteer this year because I had heard through the grapevine that there were other people who were interested, and I didn’t want to monopolize the performance opportunity. But I guess no one else stepped up. A pity.
[speaking of pendragon, I may have to get one of these.]
