Looks interesting. Oldman seems properly sinister as Black, and Gambon appears appropriate, if different, as Dumbledore. The kids, however, are far older, and their obvious maturation makes me wonder which film in the series will see their replacement. Apparently, they’re a lock for the fourth film, but after that, who knows?
You’re right — they’re definitely starting to mature. I would be surprised if they do beyond movie #4 (which I believe they are shooting concurrently with the editing of #3; hence the change in directors), and past book 5, J.K. Rowling doesn’t seem to have any kind of release timeline; so I expect they’ll just be too old by the time the sixth and seventh books get here. It’s a pity though, because silly as it may sound, I think you’ll lose some emotional involvement with the series if the faces of the main protagonists change.
Of course, it worked for Bond. So who knows?
As for Gambon, he is different … but still fitting. I’m pleased. And Oldman is always terriffic. I wish we had a better look at David Thewlis, but oh well.
And I really did enjoy the fifth book, although I found Harry a little over the top in the pubescent angst department. I wouldn’t say it was my favorite though, although Umbridge was a terrific character and Black’s end was very fitting.
I hope they keep the same kids. They aught to look older every year because they ARE older every year. I teach high school, and it’s amazing the difference that a year or two can make. 6th graders look like kids. 11th graders look like young adults. The kids in the trailer don’t look older than my 9th graders. I think if they can get through book 5, (10th grade; 15/16 years old) they’ll be able to slow down the movies a bit. We’re totally used to seeing 22 year olds play 17 year olds. That’s not a problem. It’s 20 year olds playing 14 year olds that’s noticeable.
FINALLY! the next movie. It looks soooooo good by the look of the trailer. Tom Felton and daniel radcliffe looks sooooo HOT and cute. I can’t wait until June 4th, 2004!

By the way, did you like the fifth book?
