I watched GiGi (the 1958 Oscar-winning musical) for the first time since I was tiny last night. It was on tv … I still saw all the things I loved about it … the costumes, the love story, the humor. But it was interesting to see the tongue-in-cheek way the Parisian elite are presented. Seeing it again, I was depressed at the amount of foppishness in Gaston. Ah well … in my happy bubble, GiGi will obviously beat that out of him in the long run, right?
Needless to say, the music is wonderful. It makes me smile everytime I hear it. It is light, sophisticated, and quintessentially Paris. If you have never seen or heard it, I highly recommend it. The whole experience reminds me of champagne.
