I found out via email today that UTDDP is closing their call center, and now all you can get is the voucher on line. I have to admit that I am in favor of this. The program is a great idea, but it can be a bit narrow minded sometimes. I had one run-in with them that comes immediately to mind: I was not drunk, but my ride was. I didn’t feel safe going home with him, but my only other option was to be a girl alone on 6th Street. So I called UTDDP — and they wouldn’t give me a ride home because *I* wasn’t drunk. I know that if they did accomodate people like me then others would abuse the system, but it still kind of bugged me. After all, drunk drivers rarely kill *themselves* ….
